Georgie Devereaux – Head of Theatre and Storytelling

Georgie Devereaux is one of Flying Pickle’s Co-Founders. She is our Head of Theatre and Storytelling. Georgie is a former Chief Electrician of the Noel Coward Theatre in London’s West End. She has worked as a Teaching Assistant for children with Special Educational Needs and is currently working as a technical co-ordinator at The Rose Theatre in Kingston. At Flying Pickle Georgie combines her professional passions to help pre-schoolers, and young people in the SEN Community, gain access to Storytelling and Theatre.

GEORGIE’S TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Georgie Devereaux trained in Stage Management at ALRA. After qualifying as a professional she began her theatre career in 1995. Initially, Georgie stage managed small scale tours around the UK. This meant she worked in many venues throughout the 1990s. These included Wimbledon Theatre and several in the West End. During this time she branched out from Stage Management into Technical Theatre.

This took Georgie’s career in a new direction and in 2005 she joined Delfont Mackintosh Theatres Ltd.

GEORGIE IN THE WEST END

In 2006 Georgie became Deputy-Chief Electrician at The Novello Theatre in Covent Garden. While there, Georgie worked on numerous critically acclaimed productions. These included A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and The Tempest with The Royal Shakespeare Company. As well as these classical productions, Georgie also worked on a variety of other shows. These included the highly successful Into The Hoods, The Drowsy Chaperone and Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.

In 2009 Georgie was promoted to Chief Electrician of The Noel Coward Theatre where she worked on Calendar Girls and the award-winning Enron. After taking a career break to have her two children, Georgie worked as a teaching assistant for children with Special Educational Needs in South West London from 2019-2022.

In 2023 Georgie returned to the theatre. She now has a permanent position as Technical Events Co-Ordinator at the largest producing theatre in South West London, The Rose Theatre in Kingston-Upon-Thames.

Every time Georgie reads our kids a book, they are immersed into an interactive storytelling world, through her vivid characterisations, humour and imaginative props. We love our Flying Pickle mornings!

GEORGIE DEVEREAUX’S WORK WITH FLYING PICKLE

Georgie created and runs Flying Pickle Story Telling. Her interactive sessions are designed to help communication, understanding and speech. These sessions run locally on a weekly basis in Kingston-Upon-Thames for Under 5s. Drawing on her experience are a SEN TA, Georgie makes the session accessible for both mainstream children and those with Special Educational Needs.

In her other capacity Head of Theatre for Flying Pickle, Georgie combines both her career paths. This lets her work alongside the amazing contacts and professionals from both her chosen professions. She specialises in creating workshops and theatrical experiences for teenagers and young adults with additional needs. She is also the director of Flying Pickle’s production of A Christmas Carol.
